The largest organ of the body, the Integumentary System, forms a physical barrier between the internal and external environments that it serves to protect and maintain. The system includes the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis, along with associated glands, hair and nails.

Essential Oils & Hair

A person’s beauty lies in long, lush, and lustrous hair. Hair and hair growth denotes overall health and should not be underestimated. The most deep-rooted concerns in the body, in this case, hair, can be treated using potent tonics like pure essential oils. These can promote hair health by boosting hair growth, treating scalp irritation, reducing hair fall, etc.

Essential oils are known for their aromatic and therapeutic benefits. Therefore, using them for hair health only enhances strength, shine, and growth. Like several hair problems, different essential oils aid specific hair-related issues.

Best essential oils for hair

Peppermint

Proper blood circulation in the head is key to healthy hair growth, stimulating hair follicles. Peppermint essential oil aids hair growth during the hair anagen phase by improving blood flow to the scalp.

Peppermint contains menthol, which helps dilate blood vessels under the skin. This, in turn, helps in rapid hair growth.

Mix two drops of peppermint oil with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil and massage your scalp.

Rosemary

Despite being organic, most hair treatments do not work because of sensitive skin. Rosemary essential oil is also known to work effectively on sensitive skin. Its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties help soothe an irritated scalp.

A few drops of rosemary oil mixed with a carrier oil can help cleanse the scalp and promote hair growth. It also helps balance sebum production and clear clogged pores and works best on oily hair. By reducing oiliness and greasiness, rosemary oil helps strengthen hair follicles.

Lavender oil

Rich with moisturising and cleansing properties, lavender essential oil is an active ingredient in treating alopecia areata, dry scalp conditions, and related problems. When massaged daily or regularly, it is a proven hair health booster.

Due to its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, it is most preferred for scalp health. Using it several times a week can speed up hair growth.

Tea tree oil

Among many underlying reasons for hair damage and hair loss, dandruff remains the most common. A scalp full of flakes, grease, and dandruff contributes to poor hair health.

Several studies prove tea tree essential oil to be an effective organic anti-dandruff treatment with evident results in one week. Adding a few drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil and massaging daily for 30 minutes can significantly reduce signs of dandruff.

Why can using essential oils be effective for my hair?

It has been researched, tried, tested, and proven that conventional methods like commercial brands, treatments, and products are not beneficial for hair. Your hair is as sensitive as your skin, and toxic chemicals and substances harm its texture and health. Including essential oils or an essential oil blend in your daily hair health regime is a better natural alternative.

In addition to surface-layer benefits, essential oils promote hair health from the inside by boosting hair growth, hydrating dry scalps, and increasing hair thickness and follicle number and depth. Research studies around the world support the advantages of essential oils for hair health.

Essential Oils & Skin

Beautiful skin comes from within. As we age, however, we realise the importance of topical application of products. What’s better than applying natural plants, leaves, seeds, and flower extracts?

Essential oils are particularly beneficial for aging skin. They address concerns like dryness, thinning, and reduced elasticity and improve the overall appearance of mature skin through their nourishing properties.

Essential oils that are rich in meditative properties treat several skin conditions. Most inevitable skin concerns can be delayed or healed with time by using essential oil for the skin.

Dry Skin

Roman Chamomile

Dry skin occurs most in extremely hot and cold climates. However, irritated and dehydrated skin may also be inherited. Moisturisers can provide instant hydration, whereas chamomile essential oil heals and treats dry skin. It helps reduce inflammation and increase hydration. Including it in every skincare regime helps heal overly dry skin.

Sandalwood

Boosted by anti-inflammatory compounds, sandalwood essential oil is known for its moisture-boosting properties despite its musky, woody aroma. It helps treat uneven skin tone and promotes a golden glow.

Oily Skin

Clary sage

Regarded highly as a natural alternative to acne-controlling agents, clary sage essential oil contains active compounds like geranyl and linalyl acetate. Besides reducing excess sebum production, clary sage also helps delay the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in mature skin, making it one of the best essential oils for skin, especially oily skin.

Geranium essential oil

The most loved beauty product and rage among modern-day influencers, geranium essential oil works on all skin types and is a boon for oily skin. It regulates excessive sebum production on the skin and thus can control the growth of acne.

Sensitive Skin

Because of the sensitive nature of the skin, citrus oils may not be suited for sensitive skin. Flower-based oils are the best for sensitive and inflamed skin as they are less likely to cause adverse reactions.

Rose

The problem with sensitive skin is that the most potent solution might result in an allergic reaction. Enriched with hydrating and healing properties, rose essential oil helps treat redness, scars, and sunburns. Deemed as the organic substitute for hyaluronic acid, it heals and nourishes sensitive skin by restoring damaged skin.

Neroli

An integral component of the skincare world, neroli essential oil is free from irritants and toxins, making it perfect for safe application on sensitive skin. Rich with antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, regenerating, and rejuvenating properties, neroli oil is just perfect for sensitive skin.

Why can using essential oils be effective for my skin?

Essential oils have been an integral part of the skincare regime for ages, and their admiration and popularity are only growing. They treat acne, soothe irritated, dry skin, and offer natural cleansing.

Essential oils are also a common skincare ingredient because they check all the right boxes. They are an age-old trusted elixir and a tried-and-tested product backed by science. That’s how they have earned their all-natural, therapeutic, and medicative grade. Their efficacy varies depending on skin type and concern.

Nails & Essential Oils

Chipped, cracked, and brittle nails are unpleasant to see and indicate poor health. Well-maintained, shiny, soft nails denote hydrated and healthy skin. Nails and cuticles often crack, peel, or split due to cold weather or cleaning solutions and detergents exposure.

Also, nails are vulnerable to fungal infections that could further degrade their condition. Given our busy schedules, it is easy to neglect nail and cuticle health. No matter what you do for your nails, nothing is as effective as including essential oils in your nail care regime.

Essential oils hydrate your nails and eliminate any infections that can affect them.

Best essential oils for Nails

Myrrh

Among the best products to naturally help nail growth is myrrh essential oil. Known for its hydrating properties, it prevents nails from splitting and chipping and from becoming brittle, thinning, and cracking. Hydrated cuticles promote healthy nail growth, aiding in strength and smoothness.

Thyme

Known for its antibacterial, antiviral, anti-rheumatic, antifungal, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties, thyme essential oil helps treat and prevent fungal infections. After a long day at work, dip your feet and hands in a few drops of thyme oil in lukewarm water. It not only relaxes your body but also intensively removes toxins, bacteria, fungus, etc. It will also keep the foul smell away.

Blue Tansy

This calming oil, enriched with anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties, helps protect the skin, cuticle, scalp, and nails from fungal infections. A few drops of blue tansy essential oil in your bath will help relax tense muscles and reduce irritation caused by fungal infections in the nails.

Lemon

Another great agent for nails and cuticles is vitamin C-enriched lemon essential oil. It is known for its powerful ability to clean toxins and bacteria from the skin and body. Similarly, its antifungal, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties aid in blood flow stimulation while nourishing the skin and keeping your cuticles moist and nails disinfected.

Why can using essential oils be effective for my nails?

Nails and cuticles do not absorb moisturising agents regardless of the product you use. On the other hand, essential oils are free from chemicals, drying agents, and toxins.

Apart from that, essential oils are known for their ready absorption properties, which work wonders for cuticles. Essential oils provide intensive hydration that nourishes nails and cuticles. While hand creams can provide temporary relief, essential oils heal, treat infections, and provide hydration.

This recipe works well to create strong, healthy nails. All you need to do is mix six drops of eucalyptus essential oil, eight drops of lavender essential oil, eight drops of lemon essential oil, and two tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil to create a diluted essential oils solution.

Pour the solution into a bottle with a dropper cap. Rub your hands, then wrap them around the bottle to warm it. Shake the bottle vigorously before using it to benefit from the blend. Put one drop on each nail and massage it using a soft cloth for approximately one minute. Follow it with your hand cream.
